How much ram does your PC have?

  • Last year I bought a budget PC that only has 16gb of ram. But I bought it in a pinch and this year I plan on buying a new PC that's 4 times as fast with 32gb of ram.

There’s a few things to correct you on, the first one is that if you want to quadruple your RAM, then you would need 64GB, as 32GB is only doubling it.

Second, to prevent you from possibly wasting your money, having more RAM doesn’t inherently speed up your computer. If you’re using software that uses a lot of RAM, then buying more would help. If you’re not using that much RAM, throwing more in doesn’t do anything.

For example, if your computer has 16GB of RAM, and you’re doing something that utilizes 8GB or RAM, throwing in 32 or 64GB of RAM won’t do anything, and all that extra RAM will sit there doing nothing.

I don’t know your workflow on your computer, but I would look at both CPU and RAM requirements on what you’re doing. Having a faster CPU would be more noticeable than having more RAM depending on what you’re doing.
